Hey, there,
I'm Jess!
I'm a 500 Hour - Registered Yoga Teacher and Certified Sound Healer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I instruct yoga classes, guide sound baths, host workshops and lead ceremonial yoga classes for groups and/or private events. I also serve individuals looking for one-on-one classes or coaching. Two of my passions are collaboration and community, I find this through working with other wellness workers, wellness retreats, recovery centers, businesses, festivals, group parties (birthday/bridal/etc.), schools, retirement homes, and parks. I currently teach at a Beaubien Integrative Wellness, a holistic wellness center that has a yoga studio, Sohum Studios, downstairs. I also instruct at Journies, a wonderful recovery center, and the non-profit programs YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids and The Wakaboomee Program.

My History
My first introduction to yoga was in 2015, and the more I dove into yoga and meditation, the more it truly intrigued me. I spent an immense amount of time learning about different mindfulness and wellness practices. They inspired a significant shift in my life. It was easier for me to move through daily life stresses. The phrase 'mind over matter' truly came into play; challenges began to feel like opportunities. Not only that, but I also felt physically better than I ever had before, rarely getting sick. Even when I did, it was for only a third of the time that I normally would have been.
In 2021, I wanted those around me to share this same enlightening experience. So, I began my first yoga teacher training program. I needed to know more; I completed my second yoga teacher training and got my sound healing certification. I have learned so much in the past couple of years, and am thrilled to share all of this knowledge with any and everyone.

My Philosophy
Yoga means unity. So, does this mean after repeatedly utilizing the practicing yoga that we will somehow come together with not only ourselves, but others, the world around us and whatever high power you believe in? Yes, yes it does. The goal of yoga is to use its love and light to unify the world, creating a sense of wholeness and inner peace in each individual. Yoga is truly for any and everyone, and has much more than just physical benefits.
There are actually 8 different limbs that make up yoga - yamas (abstinences), niyama (observances), asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation), and samadhi (absorption). Every single limb will harmonize and enrich our lives. Most Western yoga classes only teach asana to bring us into a state where we can fully focus on the present - dharana. Imagine the benefits of using more than just two of the eight limbs of yoga. I thoroughly enjoy incorporating multiple limbs into my classes. By practicing any or all of the 8 limbs of yoga, an immense amount of peace and love will flow through you, making it easy to get through tough situations.
